Everyone has their way to view of what is normal. Everyone speaks many types of languages and mixes them up when they speak. Everyone has a different accent, which may be perfect or not perfect, like the standard way of English. She makes that thought wrong showing how she speaks English and why she is always correct. Also, there is nothing wrong with speaking with different accents because it’s your way to speak. You can pronounce it how you want to pronounce it because your place your pronunciation is correct so there is nothing wrong with anyone’s accent and pronunciation.
In society, everyone doesn’t have the same voice or the same accent because we all are different from each other and everyone has their own voice and their way to talk. Lyiscott has her own to speak and when she speaks people judge her because of her pronunciation and the way she talks. Jamila Lyiscott in the poem, Three Ways to Speak English, suggests that there are different ways to express the English language in their own “correct” way. When she teaches students she has to speak perfect English but she has three types of English because she came from a country where her language was different than here so that makes a different kind of language because now she is speaking English on her way to teach students but she is trying to speak perfect English like the history. When she’s home she’s now speaking her country’s English way because her family members speak that way so that’s why she speaks that way at home. When she is with her colored people she changes her English because now she is surrounded by her colored people and the way they all speak English now she is speaking the same way, not like her teaching way or her home way of speaking English. Lyiscott was trying to explain that she doesn’t have excellency of speech but the way she’s speaking it’s good with that so she doesn’t need an excellent way to speak English because she speaks three tongues. All of them are different so she doesn’t want anyone to judge her by her language. Lyiscott faces a problem when she speaks English because she knows more than one language so most of the time she mixes up and that makes her feel she’s using words in different places because she doesn’t speak that way always so that’s why she felt like it’s not her language and she borrows this language from someone. Lyiscott can’t speak like wholly English because her language was broken and now she’s speaking this English because people judge other people the way people speak English.
We all speak different types of English because of our backgrounds and history but society judges us because of our pronunciation and accent. People don’t look at other people’s backgrounds without looking at those they make comments about their English because they don’t speak wholly English. There are no rules that everyone needs to speak English wholly because no one does so don’t judge anyone without their background. “2.20” Lyiscott’s speech was to show that when we came from a different country we don’t need perfect English because most of us use many different types of English because of our origin. Most immigrants speak more than two languages and it’s a good thing for them but because knowing two languages they mix up when they speak because every language has there own way to pronounce. Lyiscott has the same problem speaking English because more than one way to speak English makes her mix up and she feels like this is a language she steals from someone or borrows.“2.45-2.60” We shouldn’t judge anyone because of their accent it’s their way to speak English we should let everyone speak the way they want besides making them feel like they borrowed this language from us. We can’t change the wholly history of the English language but we can let people speak how they want because with other accents English is still understandable. We all do mistakes when we speak English so we can’t judge anyone by their English we should let them speak the way they want to speak broken English or other accents because that way they wouldn’t feel like they are stealing language from someone. We should respect everyone the way they want to speak English because that’s the only way to communicate with people English is the only to understand their thought when they are from another country. There is nothing wrong with different pronounce because if we look at which place they came from we will see that pronunciation is perfect for that way. After all, every way is different and every place has there own way to pronounce the English language.
There is always a language barrier for everyone when they move from another country. Everyone has their way to speak and there are no mistakes because she’s correct from her place and you are correct from your place because you both came from a different place so that’s why you will see the other person’s English differently. There is nothing wrong with anyone’s accents or pronunciation because it’s her way to speak English and you are also allowed to speak English how you want.
